They players and coaches were ready to take the pitch Sunday night for the second annual Black vs. Blue Darby. Black took the lead first but the Blue responded shortly after. Outstanding goalkeeping on both units kept the scoring to a minimum. But shortly before halftime a breakaway goal gave the Black a 2-1 advantage. The passing throughout the second half was pristine and accurate by both teams but either team tested the goalkeepers and they both gave each other too much respect. But with just ten minutes to go in the game, the Blue tied the game @ 2-2 with a mishap in the defensive backfield of the Black. Suddenly the Black quickly responded with another breakaway goal, 3-2 was the score. With just about two minutes left in the game the Blue lit a fire and it just became impossible to stop with tight one touch passing and give and go's. They tied the game at 3-3. With seconds left in the game the Blue kept up the pressure on the Black, but the Black's defense was way too strong to bend but not break. A deflection in the end went in the goal, but not before the final whistle had blown. The game ended with a drawn with both team exhausted and hungry from the outcome. Luckily the teams hospitality crew (aka the parents) had pizza, soda and desserts waiting in the wings. The coaching by both units was stellar and the field of play was extraordinary. Until the rematch the teams remain stalemate, great job boys. Highlights are attached.
